Starting school is an exciting time for 5-year-olds and their whanau! At Ward School, we welcome all enrolments and work closely with you to ensure that your child has a happy start to school.
We are very proud of our school and our on TRACK learners who will be very keen to show you around the school. If you are interested in enrolling your child at Ward School, please contact the school office and come visit for a look around.
Enrolment Forms and Information
You are required to complete an Enrolment Form and provide a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate (or Passport) and Immunisation Record for the school to copy. The Immunisation Record must be signed by your family doctor certifying that your child has been signed off at 5 years old. All enrolment information needs to be completed prior to school visits. Click on the link below for the Enrolment Form and visit the school office for a full Enrolment Pack.
Before School Health Check
Before your child turns 5 you will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse who will make an appointment to complete a 5 Year Check with your child. The health check is often done at school or at your child’s early learning centre.
Before School Visits
To help prepare your child for a successful and happy start to school and before your child’s 5th birthday we will schedule up to 6 school visits. School visits will provide you and your child with the chance to get to know the school, staff, environment, and, most importantly the tamariki/children. School visits are scheduled at different times of the day in order for your child to get to know routines, programmes, parts of the school, and staff who will work with them.
Preparation for your child’s first day at school
You will need to purchase a Ward School uniform, buy stationery, a bag and a lunchbox, water bottle, and high-viz vest if your child is using the school bus. The Ward School uniform is bought online from NZ Uniforms, click on the link below to view it. Our stationery provider is Paper Plus, however, you will be given a Stationery List and you can purchase at another store if you wish. It is essential that your child has a book bag and that it is used to protect reading and learning materials that are sent home.
New Entrant Learning Pack
The new entrant teacher will provide you and your child with a New Entrant Learning Pack. This pack is designed to support them with learning and help you understand what the new entrant programme involves. We expect that you will support your child with home learning every day of the school week. This includes checking and unpacking bags, reading any parent information, and learning material. Good routines support your child in being successful at school.
Transferring to Ward School from another school
If your child is coming to Ward from another school come and visit beforehand to collect an Enrolment Pack and have a look around the school. We can discuss your child’s needs and answer any questions you have. We will contact their previous school to collect school records.
