Welcome

As the new Principal of Ward School I look forward to seeing how our Tamariki continue to develop and grow as active learners and participants in our community. Our vision of Leading Our Learning – Whai Akoranga drives everyone to be on TRACK at Ward School. We want our learners to know that they can make a difference to what and how they learn, the choices they make, and the relationships they have with others and their environment. Our “On TRACK” school values of being Together, Respectful, Adaptable, Creative, and Kind are the foundation of how we think, act, behave and grow at Ward School. At Ward School we create opportunities for every learner to have success and feel inspired to lead their learning by using “On TRACK” values all the way to the SEA. We want our awesome students to be Self-managing, Engaged, Active learners who think critically and seek to make positive impacts in their current and future communities.

28 Apr 2024

Tena Koutou Katoa

This week in the Reef our Year 7/8 students will start the week with a tech day. Mr Sangster will be taking the year 6 students.

On Tuesday Mrs Sara Phillips will be in class she will be looking to establish some routines and get to know the students.

On Wednesday and Thursday Miss Logan Davies will be in class. She will also be looking to set her routines and expectations. Miss Davies will also be starting her literacy and Numeracy programmes

We have some great Learning activities planned for Term 2. We will have a major focus on the arts, looking at a range of Myths and Legends working towards a dramatic performance at the end of the term. In reading we will start the term by focusing on comprehension and responding to texts that we read. In writing we will be focusing on creative narratives. We will integrate some of this with our arts programme to look at how we can write our own myths and legends. In P.E our initial focus will be on Big ball skills and invasiion games, we may also look at aspects of gymnastics and we will also have our cross country later in the term.

I hope you have had an enjoyable and refreshing holiday. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone. Thank you for your continued support in helping us manage this term until we can appoint a permanent team member for Term 3

Kind regards

Reef Class Term 2

Tena koutou katoa

I am writing to update you on what is happening for Reef in Term 2. I am going to employ 2 Teachers to work 2 Days each a week with myself taking the 5th day. We have had very kind offers from 2 local teachers to support us through the term. Sara Phillips (The wife of Pastor Phillips) will work every second Monday ( not weeks where Year 7 & 8 have Technology) and every Tuesday. I will take the Year 6 students on Technology days. Sarah is an experienced teacher who currently works 3 days a week at Richmond View School teaching Science, Te Reo Maori and P.E but is Primary School trained and qualified.

Logan Davies will teach on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Logan also has lots of Primary experience and currently relieves regularly at Seddon School. I will teach the class on Fridays.

Sara and Logan are committed to providing great learning programmes for our Reef Students. Having met with them both over the holiday period I am very confident that we will be able to work together successfully. I feel that this is the best option to bring some consistency and stability to the classroom over this term 2 period.

I am pleased to say that we have a very promising candidate to take over Reef from Term 3. I will provide more information when I have all the fine details sorted and finalised. I hope you have all had a relaxing and refreshing holiday break.

Please note our First Monday is a Tech day for our Year 7/8 Students so I will be working with our Year 6 students for Day 1. Technology will run every second Monday on odd weeks of the term.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again in the new Term.

Kind regards
