Tena koutou and welcome to Ward School

Ward School opened in 1906. It is located on the East Coast of the South Island between Blenheim and Kaikoura. We are a Innovative rural school, which has the backing of a supportive community. Ward School is a full primary school with a teaching principal and is usually organised into two multilevel classrooms.

The school roll ranges from 30-60 children at it’s peak. Approximately 25% identify with Maori as being their first ethnicity with the remainder being of New Zealand/European descent, there are no Pacifica, Asian or other ethnicities within the school at present. The school's community stretches along approximately 50km of State highway One from south of Kekerengu to Lake Grassmere and covers areas inland of Ward and northeast to Cape Campbell. Our rural community consists mainly of farming and fishing base with emerging viticulture and tourism development in the area.
